Here’s a quick thought… Have you ever noticed that for some people, their best qualities also become their worst? Smart people, talented people, brilliant people sometimes become insufferable… I think there’s a simple explanation…their gifts, like fruit, left unused have gone bad. I think this is especially true of the special gifts that come from God to people in the church… Whether it’s a gift of management or wisdom or artistic ability – unless you take these and use them in the service of others, these gifts spoil. A brilliant person who uses his brilliance only for his own sake just becomes obnoxious. A talented person who only uses her gifts for herself becomes toxic. But if they find ways to use their gifts for others then their gifts become like bright lights in dark places – humbles them and makes them sweeter. So…how about you? Are your gifts making you sweeter or just spoiling on you?
