Reading beautiful music…

You can’t read beautiful music, you’ve got to hear it. Some people can read music well enough that they can imagine what a piece sounds like just from reading it…but even then, no musician sits around reading music – any more than an art lover would sit around reading descriptions of paintings – or a poet would sit around looking at the cover picture of a book of poems. In the same way, the Jesus story can be imagined, but in order to really get it, it must be lived. People must live it out in front of you, and you must play a part in it yourself. You have to see the Jesus life up close in order to really get it.
Now if you consider yourself a disciple, I want to challenge you with this: are you living a Jesus life? Or are you living some other kind of life, the yuppie life, the tweener life, the suburban life, or some other life based on human desires…? Are you trying to play the song on the page, to bring it to life, or are you just going through the motions and playing the required notes like some half cocked wedding band?
This song is good. The Jesus life is good. It’s better than any life you could have imagined for yourself. Play this song. Live this life. Don’t run away when the tempo or the notes seem too difficult. Every way of life requires sacrifices, but in the Jesus life all the sacrifices are worth it.
