Fix your eyes on the things above…

Most people don’t realize it, but you tend to go toward things that you are looking at. AAA puts out an article every year about how cars crash into other cars on the side of the road – not because the driver doesn’t see it, but because they start staring at the warning lights and inadvertently veer toward the thing they want to avoid. This is an even bigger problem with motorcycles (because bikes require your whole body to steer), when a rider stares at something they don’t want to hit, they wind up going toward it. It happens a lot on twisty roads when a rider goes into a corner too fast and sees the edge of the road getting close – instead of focusing on where he wants to go, fear makes him focus on where he does NOT want to go, and he winds up going off the road.
In Colossians 3, Paul says “set your mind on the things above, where Christ is, and not on the things of the earth.” If you fixate on what you want, what you’ll do, where you’ll go here…you will wind up going after and living for those things. But if you fix your eyes on Him, what He’s like, how He lived, His way of life – then guess what? You too can start living a Jesus life.
