Why is Easter Sunday important?

Question: “I know why Jesus is important…” someone says, “but why is the Easter holiday important?” ”Why should this day be any different from any other Sunday?” Answer: In a sense, EVERY Sunday is Easter Sunday as far as we’re concerned. Every Sunday we celebrate and remember and lean upon what Jesus did for us on the Cross. You don’t need a calendar to tell you when to worship. The things we do on Easter, or I like the term Resurrection Sunday, are the things we do EVERY time we meet.
BUT… this Sunday is still special. Why? Because it’s an anniversary. While I don’t need an anniversary to tell my wife I love her, nevertheless on our anniversary I want to make a special point of it. And while I don’t need you to have a birthday to want to do something nice for you, nevertheless on your birthday, I especially want you to have a good day. Why? Because anniversaries matter…
Now many of us are not that big on birthdays and anniversaries either, I know. Especially me, I’m pretty low key about both. But one thing I do – and I think all of us want to do – is we want to share the anniversaries/birthdays that matter with the people they involve. You want to be with the person…right? What’s a birthday party if the people you cared about didn’t bother to show up? What’s an anniversary if the person you share the anniversary with decided to do something else?
Come share the anniversary of Jesus’ Cross and Resurrection this Sunday. Just be there. Maybe you haven’t been around for a while. That’s okay, now’s a good time to come home. Have you been wanting to bring a friend to meet everyone? Sunday is a great time to do it. I promise you won’t regret it. As always, our worship and dress is casual at CF – but we’re serious about God, and we’re serious about you.
