Dear future praise leader(s)…
Apr 21st, 2010 by ljkim
We might not have met yet (or maybe we have)…but I know that God is working in your life to prepare you for this ministry. This won’t be something you do out of obligation, and it won’t even be something you do because you think it’s fun…but God is making you into a real worship leader: This is what you will do for your friends, this is what you will do for your family, and your roommates. So that when you do become a worship leader here at our church (or some other church), it will just be the natural thing.
You’re not just a musician, or an artist, you’re really a mood changer and thought changer. We get stuck in these circular ways of thinking, and stuck in ruts; you help break us out of that. That is your gift. It’s not just a musical gift, it’s a spiritual gift. One couldn’t train a musician to do what you do any more than you could hire a Professor of Ancient Lit. or a motivational speaker to preach sermons. It’s not just a skill but it’s a spiritual position and gift. I’m talking to future praise leaders here, but this applies to leaders of all kinds – and I think Jesus plans to make a leader out of every one of you.
Here’s what I want to tell you… Please develop your gift. Love and serve those around you by being this mood/thought changer for God. Have fun listening to and playing popular music and classics because the people you love enjoy these things too. But at the same time trust in God enough to develop your own voice. Think and pray deeply. And don’t give up. I look forward to having you minister to us!
