People who hate people…

..Are certainly NOT the luckiest people in the world…and especially in NY… but you’re in good company – although, for you that may not be such a good thing. [And if you are too young to get it, that's a reference to the schmaltzy oldy song about "people who love people...are the luckiest people in the world."] Because frankly, I don’t know a lot of people in the city who’d say they “just love being around lots and lots of people.” The city kinda’ beats that out of you after a while. It’s easier to hate and be fearful of and avoid and resent people than it is to love them. And even really-nice people-persons usually just settle for being “liked” by those around them… You know why? Because it takes determination to love. It takes a fierceness to love. It takes a bit of a warrior spirit. You have to be determined.
God loves people. It’s the most precious resource in the world as far as he is concerned. People have the capacity for horrible, annoying, obnoxious evil – but people can also repent and change and grow in such a way that all that annoying-ness is worth it!
That is MY story by the way: annoying obnoxious evil + repentance, growth, getting better every day… Perhaps that’s why God’s love for me makes it easier to love other sinful people. It’s a little bit narcissistic really. But seeing other people’s redemptive stories helps me see and appreciate my own. And this makes me a bit more loving every day. And fighting to do it reminds me of him…
Imagine if there was gold littering the streets, all over the place – and no one realized how valuable it was… Jesus said to his disciples, “Look at the fields! They’re filled and waiting to be harvested!”
