What makes God GOD…

At some point people figure out that if you did EVERYTHING your parents wanted you to do, you’ll wind up unfulfilled, and perhaps even miserable. If you did *everything* your company wanted you to do, you’d still be left with a huge gaping emptiness. If you did everything your peers and the people around you wanted to do, you’d be miserable, living up to other people’s standards and dreams while being personally unfulfilled. And strangely, even if you did everything YOU wanted to do, you’d be left with a huge gaping void. That’s the thing about the American dream, those who get their dreams wind up finding something they never expected… emptiness.
The Bible’s diagnosis of this is: this happens because none of these things (parents, work, peers, even your personal dreams) are not worthy to be “God.” You should honor them for what they are, but if you devote yourself to any of them, you’ll wind up crashing into a million little pieces.
What makes God GOD is that IF you did everything he wanted from you…even the things you did NOT want, that you would find yourself MORE fulfilled, richer, more excited, more relaxed, and more alive – than if you listened to any other voice (including your own). How come? That’s what makes Him God. He’s the only one worthy to be God. He’s the only one who knows which sacrifices are important, and what needs to be held onto. He’s the only one who’s big enough, wise enough and loving enough to know what’s really best for you – even the counter-intuitive things that seem like a huge sacrifice, but turn out to be brilliant investments in disguise.
