In the regular-people-world things are good until something bad happens. But in the broken-people-world, things normally get all screwed up unless we do something to make sure it doesn’t. Regular people don’t get mad unless something is definitely wrong. Broken people often get mad or jealous or upset for no good reason. Sometimes they even misplace their anger and project on the wrong people. Regular people always think sensibly. Broken people are sometimes irrational and come to bad conclusions, so they have to be careful about forming opinions. Regular people are naturally consistent in their thoughts and actions. Broken people have to work hard to try and stay remotely consistent.
On the flip side, it’s easier for broken people to say “I’m sorry,” because they get lots of practice. It’s also easier for broken people to be open to other people’s thoughts (once they’ve ranted about their own) because they know they’ve been wrong before. It’s also easier for broken people to be humble, and careful… whereas regular people don’t bother.
From the Bible’s point of view, it would be fine if the world were almost entirely populated by broken people. The trouble happens when broken people like you and me insist that we’re just regular people…
So what are you? Regular or broken?
