Nothing to lose…

Have any of you been watching the show Dollhouse lately? Yeah, I know…that’s why the show has been canceled. But if you had been watching, you’d know that the last few episodes are really VERY good. Amazingly good. Especially, compared to how it started in the beginning of the first season. When the show started, with its large budget and plenty of advertising, it was not so good… But after it was canceled it became amazingly good. Now I have a theory about why this is…
First, I think the show is as good as it is because Joss Whedon is a flippin’ genius. He does new, inventive, mind bending, and yet never loses touch with the human story. This is my opinion, and really beside the point…
But the second part of my theory is, the show got good after it was canceled because whereas before he had many parties (studio executives, a broad potential audience base) to please and a great deal of potential… now he had nothing to lose. With nothing to lose, they could do the show right… Not to please an executive, or a demographic, but to make it the best most interesting show they could create.
The reason I bring this us is because the Gospel, dying to self, admitting utter failure and relying solely on imputed worth (vicarious life and death) of your Savior does something very similar… Believing THAT means you too have nothing to lose! Thru your works, you’ll be canceled too! The life you live, then is by grace. What this means is: when it comes to following Jesus – you don’t have to live a life of compromise. You can be free, and do it right.
Anyway – this is my dream for City Fellowship Church. A church without compromise, the way it’s supposed to be; people living for God with nothing lose, because in some way He is our life.
