Last minute gifts…
Dec 23rd, 2009 by ljkim
I read a blog post somewhere that said ‘Last minute gifts can be the most meaningful… If you couldn’t decide what to get until the last minute, then it’s because you really cared and put a lot of thought into it.‘ Yeah okay – either that or you just forgot… Now it happens to the best of us, in the busy-ness of the holidays you forget someone important. Imagine going to a birthday party and carefully planning gifts for everyone – everyone except the one who’s birthday is being celebrated. Boy would that would be embarrassing… So let me ask you, “What are you doing for Jesus this Christmas?” This is my last-minute gift conundrum, and that’s what I’m sitting here thinking about…
An old dead pastor used to ask people “What’s the last thing you’ve done just because you love Jesus?” To which, if you were to ask me right now, I’d have to hum and haw and reply “is that really egg nog over there?”
The best kinds of gifts, I think, are the ones that only you could give – based on your relationship and history with that person. So what could YOU give that would really be a “gift” something the receiver of the gift could delight in, and at the same time be an expression of your friendship and past together?
For Jesus it would have to be BIG. How big depends on how much he means to you. So here’s my prayer: “God, show me what kind of gift would be fitting for my King and friend and Savior this Christmas. Everything I have comes from you, but would you allow me to give you something, or do something, as a token of my love…”
