Giving God what He deserves…

Here’s how I think any of us would pray, apart from God’s work in our lives…if we prayed with COMPLETE honesty:
“Dear God. I guess I can do the things you ask me to, as long as it’s stuff I’d want to do anyway. Yes I know that Jesus died for my sins, but only because he wanted to, right? Why should I talk to someone I don’t like? By the way, couldn’t you make Sunday a little later, and Saturday night a little longer? I’m always so tired for worship I can hardly keep my eyes open… By the way, sorry I’m often late, or missing, but I really had other things I HAD TO do. You know they pay me for work, and I get grades for school work, but you don’t really give me anything…I mean, on Sunday, I just sit there and think about other things anyway – it’s almost a waste of my time, so you owe me. Speaking of which, could you hurry up with all the things I’ve asked you for? I keep hearing about your mercy and all, but to tell you the truth, I’m not seeing it. I mean, where’s the love?”
It’s not that you HAVE-to do something to reciprocate God’s love…you don’t have to give God what He deserves in order for Him to love you any more than a parent needs her child to be respectful in order to love him… It’s just that God, because He loves you, doesn’t want you to grow up to be an a**hole. I believe that’s the literal translation of what the prophet said.
Now if you’re not a Christian, you can really back me up on this… How can a normal rational person claim to love God and ever think this way? I tell you, I don’t know how I did it, we’re just not thinking sometimes…
