Investing in the Now

Here’s a rather spacey thought, but please bear with me:
Perhaps the reason God placed us in linear time is so that we could appreciate and make the most of “now.” I propose that “now” matters more to God than what happened yesterday or will happen tomorrow:
“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” (Proverbs 27:1)
“Now” is the time of decision, it’s the time of action and choice. “Now” is the most important moment in your entire life, and it’s all you really have! The past you can’t change. The future is not here yet. Even careful planning for the future is something one can only do in the present…what matters to God is not whether you accurately predicted the future, but that you were faithful and thankful in the present (by making sensible preparations for the future).
If this is true, what this means is we should never make the mistake of giving up “now” because we’re wrapped up with where we will be tomorrow (even if we’re right about tomorrow). We should never miss an opportunity for friendship, or kindness, or faithfulness “now” because we’re leaving tomorrow. The truth is we’re all leaving tomorrow in some sense or another (because the now will be gone for another now), but what God wants to know is what are you going to do with the NOW that he gives you?
