Celebrate your Independence
Jul 5th, 2008 by ljkim
The thing about “independence” is…it really depends what you’re trying to be independent of… For instance, you probably shouldn’t try to be independent of your parachute when you’re skydiving. And if you owned a home in NY you probably shouldn’t to secede from the city (although you could avoid the city tax that way) by declaring independence and starting your own country on the seventh floor of your apartment building.
But some kinds of independence are good and valuable almost all of the time: for instance we value being able to THINK independently… I actually don’t think it’s possible to follow God without being an independent thinker… Sure you can be “religious” and follow human religious agendas without much critical thought – but that’s the problem… Unless you can think for yourself you can’t really be on the side of truth because the truth is sometimes we’re right and sometimes we’re wrong – and when we’re wrong (which is often enough) the most progressive and intelligent thing to do is to go back and repent. That’s the sort of thing you can’t just do by following the crowd, you need to see it and do it for yourself.
So if you’re ready to celebrate your independence, question assumptions, and seek God, (or at least try to…alongside a bunch of people who are trying also) then the time is Sunday morning at 11:11AM – at 873 Broadway (bet 18-19th St)…When you get to the front door there will be a sign telling you to buzz #0020 – and when you get to the 4th floor you’ll see more signs pointing you to Room 408!
